The HIV Berodung service of the Luxembourg Red Cross is involved in the prevention of new infections  (HIV, hepatitis C and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs)) and promotes a living environment that meets the needs of the people concerned. Founded in 1988 to support people living with AIDS, the service is currently a national public health stakeholder for the prevention and psychosocial care of HIV, hepatitis C and other STIs.

RAPID, FREE AND ANONYMOUS TESTING

Rapid, free and anonymous testing for HIV, hepatitis C and syphilis is offered at the HIV Berodung service (and other facilities e.g. CIGALE), as well as via the Dispositif d'Intervention Mobile pour la Promotion de la Santé sexuelle (DIMPS) (mobile HIV testing.)

The DIMPS is a mobile counselling and testing service that reaches out to people who have difficulty accessing conventional health services.

Testing is the only way to detect HIV infection and therefore to enable access to treatment. The HIV Berodung service offers a test rapide d’orientation diagnostique (TROD) (rapid diagnostic test), which detects the presence of HIV antibodies in the blood.

MONITORING AND TREATMENT

  • Psychological support for people living with HIV and/or hepatitis C, as well as for their family and friends.
  • Social assistance: the service's social workers provide advice and support to people living with HIV in various procedures and help them to return to a stable social situation (income applications, search for housing and/or debt management, etc.).
  • Nursing and medical care are provided to support the client in adhering to the treatment;
  • The HIV Berodung service also has some specialized supervised accommodation for people in psychological, medical and social distress due to their HIV infection.
